LG.Philips LCD Licenses Fergason Patent to Improve Video

MENLO PARK CA (December 9, 2003) — Fergason Patent Properties announced the completion of a licensing agreement under which Fergason has licensed certain rights related to U.S. patent 5,717,422 to LG.Philips LCD Co. Ltd. The invention deals with system synchronized brightness control (SSBC) technology that improves the video image quality of LCD displays through the synchronous modulation of backlight brightness and other system parameters.

“We are very pleased that LG.Philips LCD has endorsed the SSBC technology and joined Matsushita Electric (Panasonic brand) as a licensee” Dr. Fergason commented. “We look forward to a further round of innovation on the SSBC theme that will result in improving the competitiveness of LCD TVs.”

According to DisplaySearch President, Ross Young, LG.Philips LCD has been the #1 supplier of large-area TFT LCDs (10"+) for the past four quarters (Q4'02 - Q3'03) and is expected to be #1 for all of 2003.
