Epson Extends Scope of License with Fergason Patent Properties

MENLO PARK CA March 10, 2008 — Fergason Patent Properties LLC (FPP) announced the extension of the product scope of its existing licensing agreement with Seiko Epson Corporation under which FPP has licensed certain rights related to a family of patents that include U.S. patents 5,717,422 and 6,816,141.

The licensed patents relate to System Synchronized Brightness Control (SSBC™) technology that improves the video image quality of LCD and projection displays through the synchronous modulation of backlight brightness and the video signal.  The process is widely described in the display industry as either High Dynamic Range (HDR) or Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR).

“We are pleased that Epson has decided to extend its use of SSBC.” said Charles McLaughlin, VP Licensing for FPP.  “Epson was an early adopter of HDR technology in their projectors.  The revised license will cover applications in the small LCD modules manufactured by Epson Imaging Devices that are used in mobile and portable applications ”
