Hitachi Displays Licenses Fergason Patents for Dynamic Contrast Ratio

MENLO PARK CA (May 28, 2010) — Fergason Patent Properties LLC (FPP) announced the completion of a licensing agreement with Hitachi Displays, Ltd. Under which FPP has licensed certain rights related to its intellectual property for controlling the dynamic contrast ratio of LCDs.

The intellectual property describes a technology that FPP calls system synchronized brightness control (SSBC™) technology that improves the video image quality and reduces the power consumption of LCD modules through the synchronous modulation of backlight brightness and the video signal. The approach is also called global dimming.

“We are very pleased that Hitachi Displays has added its endorsement to SSBC technology as a licensee” Charles McLaughlin, a managing Partner at Fergason Licensing commented. “We look forward to their leadership in developing higher performance LCD modules for use in mobile and consumer applications.”
